Foods that tend to keep us awake contain tyramine. Tyramine is an amino acid that leads to the release of a brain stimulant called norepinephrine, which can keep us wired all night . Tyramine foods include things like sausages, cheese, red wine, tomatoes, cured meats, chocolate and peppers.
How about what we drink? Nearly all of us realize we should not drink coffee, tea or cola in the evenings, but what about the allegedly healthy energy drinks? Like the ones that give you wings? Those drinks can cause widespread insomnia, especially among young people who use them to stay awake for a longer period and study better. Manufacturers of these so called "healthy" drinks purposely target our young people with their advertising.
These energy drinks are quite addictive and contain high levels of both caffeine and taurine. Taurine is another amino acid that causes an alert state. These drinks become especially dangerous if alcohol is included. This is due to the combination of the energy drink, which consists of stimulating elements, and alcohol which is a depressant. We just don't need these drinks to feel energetic. All we are getting are restless nights, even if we drink them in the morning.
All we actually require for energy is water, the right foods and enough sleep. Eating the correct foods for insomnia and avoiding energy drinks will radically enhance your sleep. Worth a look at!
